Deer Lakes High School graduate Jonathan Bodnar was named the University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in Carnegie Mellon's victory at Chicago on Oct. 20.
Bodnar, a senior linebacker, headed a defense that held Chicago to 73 yards rushing in a 21-0 victory. He led the defense with six tackles and picked off a pass.
In last Saturday's game against Bethany, Bodnar intercepted a pass for the third consecutive week and returned it 40 yards for a Tartans touchdown.
For the season, Bodnar has 18 solo tackles, 35 assists, five tackles for a loss, three interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Seneca Valley grad gets swim honor
Seneca Valley High School graduate Ben Gutmann was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for his performance at the Titans Relay Carnival, which took place at Waynesburg.
Gutmann, a sophomore at Westminster College, helped Westminster earn a first-place finish in the six-team event. He swam on two first-place relay teams.
Gutmann swam on the victorious 300 breaststroke relay team that set a meet record with a time of 3:04.98, while also handling a leg for the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:43.32).
Fox Chapel grad a cross country champ
Fox Chapel Area High school graduate Matthew Rudzki won the Presidents' Athletic Conference men's cross country championship for the second time in three years.
Rudzki, a senior at Washington & Jefferson College, finished first in the 96-runner field in the championship meet, which took place Oct. 27 at Saint Vincent College. He completed the 8K course in a time of 26:32.
Rudzki also won the title in 2005.
Rudzki's teammate, Bobby Regan, placed second in the PAC meet with a time of 27:17. Regan, a junior, is a graduate of Pine-Richland High School.
PAC honors Butler graduate
Butler Area High School graduate Dan Andreassi was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Waynesburg College's game against Washington & Jefferson on Oct. 27.
Andreassi, a senior linebacker, recorded a career-high 18 tackles, including 12 solo stops, and forced and recovered a fumble.
For the season, Andreassi has 41 solo tackles, 28 assists, 7.5 tackles for a loss, and two sacks.
