District Roundup: IUP rolls to 30-0 triumph
Keeps Division II playoffs in sight

IUP kept its NCAA Division II playoff hopes alive with an impressive 30-0 rout of Shippensburg yesterday at Miller Stadium in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division.

IUP (8-1, 5-1), ranked fifth in the Northeast Region, defeated Shippensburg (3-7, 2-3) for the 20th consecutive time.

Andrew Krewatch threw three touchdown passes, including two to Ken Witter covering 19 and 16 yards.

Shippensburg was held to minus-16 yards rushing.

Carnegie Mellon 42, Bethany 19: The visiting Tartans (5-4) won their third consecutive game with a non-league victory at Bethany (4-5). CMU outgained Bethany, 399-354, in total yards. Robert Grimson led the Tartans with 140 rushing yards with Travis Sivek adding 131 and three touchdowns. Sivek has scored 348 career points, 20th best in NCAA Division III history.

Grove City 44, Saint Vincent 0: Brian Mercer scored four touchdowns and rushed for 179 yards on 24 carries as host Grove City (4-5) routed Saint Vincent (0-9) in the first football meeting between the schools since 1960. Andrew DiDonato passed for three touchdowns and 241 yards. He also scored on a 1-yard run. The Wolverines held a commanding 37-10 edge in first downs

Westminster 20, Thiel 16: Nick McKolosky's 105 yards on 34 carries led the host Titans (5-4, 2-3) to a hard-fought win against Thiel (2-7, 1-5) in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Fairmont State 47, Seton Hill 20: The host Griffins (3-6, 3-4) were outscored, 24-0, in the second quarter of this WVIAC contest by the Falcons (5-5, 2-5). Clayton Shaver's 8-yard touchdown pass from Matt Dowdell gave Seton Hill an early 7-0 lead before Fairmont State went on a 41-7 run.

Albany 45, Robert Morris 17: David McCarty's 167 rushing yards and two touchdowns paced host Albany (6-3, 4-0) to an easy Northeast Conference victory against Robert Morris (3-6, 2-3). The Colonials have lost five in a row. Albany led, 17-0, after the first quarter. Robert Morris was outgained in total offense, 377-287.

Wittenberg 17, Allegheny 6: The Gators (5-4, 3-3) fell to visiting Wittenberg (7-2, 5-1) despite the Gators winning the battle of statistics. T.J. Salopek completed 26 of 45 pass attempts for 255 yards to lead Allegheny.

California 30, West Chester 14: The nationally ranked Vulcans (10-0) remained unbeaten with an easy road victory. Cory Garver caught two touchdown passes from Joe Ruggiero for California.

Edinboro 49, Clarion 30: Clarion (0-10, 0-5) led, 21-20, after one quarter before the host Fighting Scots (7-3, 3-2) took control in this PSAC West contest. Edinboro outgained Clarion, 570-344. Trevor Harris completed 33 of 46 pass attempts for 415 yards and four touchdowns.
