Top-seeded Steel Valley had its hands full but managed to slip past South Park in the Ironmen's WPIAL Class AA semifinal round match-up last night at West Allegheny High School.
Steel Valley (19-0-2) got the only goal it needed from Kyle Thomas, his 32nd of the season, 9:51 into the opening half and held on for the win.
Steel Valley will be making its first appearance in a WPIAL soccer championship match since capturing the title in 1995.

Center 1, Mars 0: Center (19-3) clinched its first championship game appearance in school history by blanking Mars (17-3-1). Ryan Prosper scored the game's lone goal on an assist from Zachary Taylor.

Bethel Park 2, Pine-Richland 1: Top-seeded Bethel Park (21-1) needed a goal by Ben Vietmeier in the second overtime to get past Pine-Richland (12-4-2).
Peters Township 2, Chartiers Valley 1: Mark Majoras scored two minutes into overtime to lift Peters Township (20-1-2) against Chartiers Valley (15-6). It was the third win by Peters Township over the Colts this season.
Class A boys' soccer
Seton-LaSalle 3, Quaker Valley 0: Sophomore Anthony Virgara scored all three goals for the Rebels (18-0-3) in their win against Quaker Valley (14-8).
All three of Seton-LaSalle's goals came in the second half.
Sewickley Academy 2, Shady Side Academy 0: Sam Dunderdale and Matt Kaye scored goals for Sewickley Academy (20-1-2) in its win against Shady Side Academy (20-3).
Class AAA girls' soccer
Upper St. Clair 1, Pine-Richland 0: Tess Burdette scored the only goal of the game in the 70th minute off an assist from Rachel Engel to give Upper St. Clair (16-6) its upset win against Pine-Richland (17-2-2).
Upper St. Clair goalkeeper Carly Hyland made eight saves.
Seneca Valley 4, Penn-Trafford 1: Seneca Valley (16-3-1) found the net three times in the second half in its win against Penn-Trafford (18-3-1). Karisa Fernandez led the attack with a pair of goals.
Class AA girls' soccer
South Park 4, Neshannock 0: Sophomore Courtney Albitz scored the game's final three goals for South Park (20-1-1) in its win against Neshannock (13-6-2).
Brittany Pfaff opened the scoring 14:30 into the contest for the top-seeded and defending WPIAL champion Eagles.
South Park goalkeeper Sydney Judkins needed to make only two saves to post the shutout, while South Park peppered Neshannock with 17 shots.
Springdale 1, Greensburg Central Catholic 0: Sophomore Brittany Loveland's 28th goal of the season on a second-half penalty kick lifted Springdale (20-2-1) past Greensburg Central Catholic (18-3-2).

Greensburg Central Catholic football defensive back Chris Hayden-Martin, who made a verbal commitment to Pitt in the spring, decided Monday to look elsewhere. Pitt followed by pulling its scholarship offer.
