Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission trout stockings continue statewide. For a schedule, visit www.fishandboat.com

Lake Erie: Although rainfall moved steelhead further up into the tribs mid-week, as of last night, streams were running low and clear and steelhead -- in very big numbers -- were in the lower reaches. Although largemouth bass abound in Presque Isle Bay, anglers reported poor catch rates over the weekend.

Allegheny River (Venango County): The river jumped 3 feet overnight and turned muddy Wednesday in the wake of recent rainfall. Prior to the change, anglers were catching nice smallmouth bass.

Lake Arthur (Butler County): Bob Sarnese of Prospect caught a 15-inch, 2-pound 5-ounce crappie this week. Ron Raehn of Pittsburgh caught a 14-inch 2-pound crappie. Perch 10 to 12 inches and small to average size largemouth bass also are reported. Hybrid striped bass are coming on shiners. One angler caught an 8-pound walleye on a bluegill.

Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Dandy catches of largemouth bass are reported amid low angling pressure. Bluegills and crappies are coming off the Sheakleyville Bridge at dusk.

Shenango Reservoir (Mercer County): The crappie bite turned on last weekend, with anglers doing well along drop-offs and brush piles. Lower water levels are giving anglers an opportunity to learn the lake, and mark hotspots on their GPS monitors. Good smallmouth bass action also was reported.

Neshannock Creek (Mercer County): Flow was at a good level but very colored mid-week, with temperatures running in the low 50s in the mornings and in the low 60s by afternoon. Recent stockings by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Trout Unlimited have put a fair number of rainbows and browns in the stream. Anglers are doing well on nymphs, egg patterns and small streamers. For updates on this and other northwestern Pennsylvania streams, visit www.ncflyshop.com

Allegheny River: The Venture Outdoors Downtown TriAnglers reported slow fishing on the North Shore, Wednesday. Highlights included a 19-inch flathead catfish released by Tom Lippert of Spring Garden, and 15-inch smallmouth bass released by John Force of the North Side and Liz Keller of Friendship. Next week is the TriAnglers final outing of the season and will include an awards ceremony. Cooling rainfall is expected to spur action on walleyes and bass.

Ohio River: George M. Cyrilla of Moon Township caught an 111/4-pound, 321/4-inch walleye with 161/2-inch girth on a Hot n Tot at the Montgomery Dam in Beaver County last week. Dan Crane of McKees Rocks landed a 26-inch, 6-pound walleye on an ultra-light outfit and small jig and grub near the mouth of a creek, Sunday. He also caught nice-size catfish and several bass. John Mongelluzzo of Greentree caught a 38-inch catfish in the back channel of the Emsworth Dam last week. Will Dwyer, 6, of Westwood and Michael Kennedy, 11, of Shaler caught 15 hybrid striped bass up to 281/2 inches on shiners and soft plastic minnows on the North Side near the McKees Rocks Bridge.

Monongahela River: Smallmouth bass, and the occasional walleye and sauger are reported.

Youghiogheny Reservoir (Fayette County): Nice numbers of smallmouth bass, including many 14 to 18 inches, are reported mostly in shallow water. Water levels are low.

High Point Lake (Somerset County): Northern pike are hitting, with the middle of the lake between the two boat ramps a hot spot.
