US Airways' revenue up $177 million for third quarter

US Airways today reported third-quarter net income of $177 million, as compared to a loss of $78 million in the same period a year ago.

Revenue was up 2.3 percent, to $3.04 billion.

US Airways, Pittsburgh's largest carrier, recently announced plans to pull another 40 daily flights in January, eliminate 450 local jobs and shut down its 500-person Pittsburgh pilot and flight attendant crew base. The cuts will leave the Tempe, Ariz.-based airline with 68 daily flights and 1,800 Pittsburgh-area workers.

US Airways pilots are picketing today in Philadelphia, claiming they have been "denied the financial gains" resulting from the airline's 2005 merger with America West Airlines. Pilots, flight attendants, ground and maintenance workers are still without a single contract more than two years after the merger closed.
