Bethel Park High School graduate Lauren Spegal broke the Bethany College record for career kills in a match against Thiel College on Oct. 16.
Spegal, a 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter, recorded 10 kills in the match, which gave her 1,200 for the season. The previous record of 1,197 kills was set by Kelly Sitko in 1999.
Spegal increased her record-breaking total to 1,229 in Bethany's next two matches. This season, Spegal has 333 kills in 82 games, an average of 4.06 per game.
A standout at CMU
Peters Township High School graduate Jonathan Hall has scored five goals, which ranks second on the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team.
A sophomore midfielder, Hall has recorded two game-winning goals. In a match against La Roche, he headed home the game-winning goal during a double-overtime 2-1 win.
PAC's top player
Bethel Park High School graduate Brittney Brown was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 15.
Brown, a freshman forward at Waynesburg University, recorded four points on two goals and an assist in wins over Thiel and Geneva.
Brown currently ranks third on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists.
CV grad honored
Beth Manganaro, a Chartiers Valley High School graduate, has been named Women's Soccer Player of the Week in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
A junior midfielder at Penn State Behrend, Manganaro had the game-winning goal plus an insurance goal as the Behrend Lions (9-5-3 overall, 8-0-1 AMCC) took a 2-0 decision at Penn State Altoona.
The victory ensured the top seed in the AMCC tournament for the defending champions. Manganaro is the team's second-leading scorer with 4 goals and 4 assists.
Big goals for La Roche
Baldwin High School graduate Reuben Jolo, a sophomore midfielder, scored three goals to lead La Roche College to two victories last week.
Jolo's efforts earned him Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week.
The Redhawks' second leading scorer had the game-winner plus an insurance tally in a 3-1 decision over Pitt-Greensburg, then got the Redhawks (11-6-1 overall, 6-2 AMCC) rolling by opening the scoring versus Hilbert in a 2-1 victory.
Playing in all 18 games, Jolo now has 19 points on the season with 8 goals and 3 assists.
