The Hummer H2

Hummer is humming along this year with some big changes in its bread-and-butter model, the H2.

Sure, at a glance it looks much the same, but look inside. That's a whole new interior, with a new instrument panel and-- glory be -- real third-row seats, not the little stool-like things that graced the previous models.

You'll also find newly standard side curtain air bags and a stability-control system, and a brand new 6-liter, 393-horsepower V-8 with an equally new six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings however, are pretty dicey -- about 10 to 12 miles per gallon, though the company is not required by law to disclose fuel mileage because of its governmental vehicle classification.

H2 prices start at $56,410.

Meanwhile, the H3 gets a new high-performance model, the H3 Alpha, with a 4.3-liter, 300-horsepower V-8 that is rated at about 13 to 16 miles per gallon. With the Alpha you get a 33 percent increase in towing capacity, a sport exterior design all its own, along with a unique interior. Prices for the H3 range from $30,695 to $39,260.
