WPIAL Class AAA Roundup: Indiana's ground game stuns fourth-ranked Knoch

Ben Fiscus and Jason Snyder combined for 238 yards rushing and four touchdowns last night to lead Indiana (5-3, 3-3) to a 28-27 Greater Allegheny Conference upset of Knoch (6-2, 4-1), which is No. 4 in the Post-Gazette's WPIAL Class AAA rankings.

Fiscus rushed for 114 yards on 17 carries and scored on runs of 2, 9 and 22 yards. Snyder rushed for 124 yards on 22 carries and scored on a 2-yard run.

Knoch's Zach Gross threw touchdown passes of 18 and 7 yards to Rob Briggs and Kyle Reiser, respectively. The Knights also scored on a 2-yard run by Tim McNerney and a 13-yard run by Kevin Brodeur.

A missed extra point by Knoch was the difference.

Trinity 50, Keystone Oaks 14

Brandon Weaver and Mike Yancich combined to rush for 327 yards and five touchdowns to lead Trinity (5-3, 3-2) to a Big Seven Conference victory at Keystone Oaks (3-5, 2-3). Weaver rushed for 177 yards and scored on runs of 76, 1 and 33 yards. Yancich rushed for 150 yards and scored on runs of 54 and 55 yards.

Keystone Oaks tailback John Fuhrer rushed for 132 yards on 36 carries. and scored on runs of 2 and 9 yards. Fuhrer has 4,038 career rushing yards.

Highlands 14, Franklin Regional 12

Jeff Sinclair threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Highlands (7-1, 4-1) to a win over Franklin Regional (4-4, 2-3) in the Greater Allegheny Conference.

Sinclair hit Josh Susa on a 34-yard scoring pass in the first quarter, then ran 6 yards for a score in the second quarter.

Franklin Regional's Anthony Vendemia threw touchdown passes of 2 and 31 yards to J.W. Gulaskey and Jimmy Hart.

West Allegheny 28, New Castle 14

Zac Sinclair threw touchdown passes of 5, 3 and 53 yards to Tyler Joyce, Derrik Zeroski, and Max Midgley to lead West Allegheny (4-4, 3-2) to a Parkway Conference win over New Castle (5-3, 3-3).

Hopewell 47, Moon 7

Jared Rains rushed for 239 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 19, 39 and 81 yards, as Hopewell (4-4, 2-3) stayed alive in the Parkway Conference with a convincing win over Moon (0-8, 0-5). Vikings quarterback Mark Javens scored on runs of 83 and 31 yards, and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to David Posluszny. Javens rushed for 150 yards on six carries.

West Mifflin 27, Elizabeth Forward 7

Mike Neckerman threw touchdown passes of 5, 99 and 63 yards to Rashad Washington to lead West Mifflin (3-5, 2-3) to a Big Seven Conference win over winless Elizabeth Forward (0-8, 0-6).

Hampton 35, Greensburg Salem 20

Dan O'Mara returned a punt block 38 yards for a touchdown and caught touchdown passes of 34 and 14 yards, as Hampton (2-6, 1-4) posted its first Greater Allegheny win at Greensburg Salem (2-6, 0-5). Zach Smith rushed for 106 yards and scored on a 21-yard run for the Talbots.

Mount Pleasant 28, Uniontown 14

The Vikings (6-2, 5-0) clinched a tie for the Keystone Conference title with this win at Uniontown (2-6, 2-3). Jake Hoffer led Mt. Pleasant with 128 yards on 19 carries, and scored on runs of 3 and 4 yards. Uniontown's Doug Sanner completed 12 of 25 passes for 137 yards and two scores.

Belle Vernon 49, Derry Area 6

Jacob Dudzinski scored three touchdowns to lead Belle Vernon (4-4, 4-1) to a Keystone Conference road victory over Derry (0-8, 0-5). It was the 22nd straight loss for Derry. Dudzinski scored on a 24-yard run, a 35-yard interception return and 98-yard kickoff return. He also found Sam Bashion on a 34-yard scoring pass.

Laurel Highlands 35, Albert Gallatin 0

Tim Bradley rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries and scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards, as Laurel Highlands (2-6, 2-3) stayed alive in the Keystone Conference with a shutout of Albert Gallatin (1-7, 1-5). Carmen Congelio ran 55 yards for a Mustangs score, and threw for another touchdown.

Ambridge 37, Peters Township 30

Pat Healey ran 53 yards for a touchdown then returned a punt 99 yards for another score to lead Ambridge (4-4) to a non-conference win over visiting Peters Township (3-5). David Duke completed 9 of 14 passes for 147 yards and connected with Bob Gaiton on a 65-yard scoring pass for the Bridgers. Duke also ran 1 yard for a score.

Pine-Richland 33, Ringgold 6

Vinny Nittoli completed 9 of 12 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 5 Pine-Richland (7-1) to a non-conference win over Ringgold (4-4). Nittoli connected with Zach Richert and Joe Killian on touchdown passes of 28 and 72 yards. Nittoli also scored on a 1-yard run.
