Deer Lakes student charged in gang brawl
Friday, October 19, 2007

A Deer Lakes High School student has been charged as an adult in connection with a gang fight last month between youths from West Deer and Hampton.

Anthony Bishop, 17, was charged with attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault.

He was in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment yesterday. He is to appear at a hearing next Friday in juvenile court, where his attorneys have petitioned to have him prosecuted.

Hampton police said Mr. Bishop was one of nearly two dozen youths from the two towns who met at a cemetery in the township. Their Sept. 9 dispute revolved around a previous altercation over drug paraphernalia and a cell phone, police said.

Mr. Bishop was among those who wielded knives and other weapons during the brawl, police said.

None of the other combatants has been charged, pending further investigation, police said.
