Carnegie Library gets $300,000 donation

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh received a donation of $300,000 during in connection with yesterday's 2007 Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy Ceremony.

The Carnegie Corporation of New York made donations of $100,000 each on behalf of the Heinz, Mellon and Tata families, all of whom received the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy during a ceremony in Pittsburgh yesterday.

Created to honor Andrew Carnegie's career as a philanthropist, the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy is presented every two years to philanthropists who share his vision for dedicating their private wealth for the public good. The Carnegie Hero Fund, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh hosted the celebration.
