PG East: Woodland Hills' Gronkowski has freshman impact

Woodland Hills High School graduate Rob Gronkowski has made an impact as a freshman this season at the University of Arizona, playing in all seven games and starting four at tight end.

Gronkowski, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound freshman, has 10 receptions for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Gronkowski played three years at Buffalo's North High School, before transferring to Woodland Hills his senior year.

Gronkowski's first touchdown reception, which covered 26 yards, came in Arizona's 45-24 win over Northern Arizona.

The other two touchdown catches came in the Wildcats' 48-20 victory over Washington State. In that game, Gronkowski caught four passes for 115 yards and scored on passes of 18 and 57 yards.

As a senior at Woodland Hills, Gronkowski earned Associated Press All-State first-team honors and was a PG Fabulous 22 selection.

GCC grad many happy returns

Greensburg Cenral Catholic graduate Max Suter is ranked No. 28 in NCAA Division I in with a 28.0-yard average on kickoff returns.

Suter, a 5-11, 190-pound freshman, is a kick returner at Syracuse University. He has returned 28 kickoffs for 784 yards, including a 93-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter of a 38-35 win over Louisville on Sept. 22.

Suter was named Big East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against Louisville.

Suter has also seen action in the defensive backfield as a safety in all seven games, and started once. He has six solo tackles and five assists.

PSAC honors

Woodland Hills graduate Kareem Dutrieuille was selected PSAC Western Division Offensive Player of the Week after setting career highs with 28 rushing attempts and 100 yards for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Saturday's 27-7 win over Edinboro.

He scored two touchdowns, both on 1-yard runs in the second half.

Dutrieuille, a 5-9, 240-pound junior, added a pair of receptions for 12 yards, with both catches converting third downs and leading to first quarter scoring drives that gave the Crimson Hawks an early 10-0 lead.

In six games, Dutrieuille has rushed for 352 yards and seven touchdowns on 91 carries.

Norwin's Salopek cited

Norwin graduate T.J. Salopek was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in Allegheny College's 14-0 win over Denison.

Salopek completed 18 of 30 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 68 yards and a score.

On the season, Salopek has completed 58 percent of his passes for 577 yards and four touchdowns since taking over the starting quarterback duties midway through game one.
