Museum launches Adopt-A-Bone drive for Dinosaur Hall
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
A worker lays carpet on the first floor as Dr. David Smith (not pictured) talks on the second floor about the Adopt-A-Bone program for the dinosaur exhibit at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

In an Adopt-A-Bone campaign kicked off yesterday by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History to help fund the new Dinosaur Hall, donors will be able to choose a bone they like and contribute the corresponding amount.

Fees range from $25 for a tooth or a neck vertebra all the way up to $10,000 for a skull. There are 1,269 bones and unlimited dinosaur teeth available for adoption.

The goal is to raise $200,000 of the $36 million campaign for the new Dinosaur Hall, which will feature 15 real dinosaurs in their natural settings.

In attendance yesterday were Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark and his wife, Yonka, who "adopted" bones for their three children.

Phase one of the exhibit is scheduled to open Nov. 21, just in time for Thanksgiving. Donors will receive certificates, and their names will appear on a plaque in the finished hall. For information or donations, go to www.adoptabone.org.
