Christian Film Fest offers free screenings

There may be no such thing as a free lunch but there are free movies this weekend, courtesy of the Pittsburgh Christian Film Festival.

The event, which will bring back such features as "Amazing Grace" and "The Ultimate Gift" and showcase titles for young children, will be Friday through Sunday at the former Star City theater, now Screenworks, near the I-79 Bridgeville exit.

Tickets are free and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The ticket booth will open at 11:30 a.m. and provide tickets for that day's movies, being screened in two of the multiplex's auditoriums. Details: www.projectinghope.com.

Friday

11:45 a.m.: "Hermie and Friends" -- Two Max Lucado tales, "To Share or Nut to Share" and "Milo, the Mantis Who Wouldn't Pray."

Noon: "Facing the Giants" -- Uplifting film about faith and high school football that was made for $100,000 by Georgia churchgoers turned moviemakers and earned $10 million at the box office last year.

1:15 p.m.: "Veggie Tales: God Made You Special" -- Classic stories, plus "Bob's Vacation" with a lesson about God's love.

2:15 p.m.: "Flywheel: Director's Cut" -- A shady used car salesman restores a classic convertible as God works on restoring him.

2:30 p.m.: "The Last Sin Eater" -- A Fox Faith movie, set in the 1800s among Welsh settlers in Appalachia, about a young girl consumed with guilt.

4:45 p.m.: "Veggie Tales: Gideon -- Tuba Warrior" -- Story of a man carefully chosen to defend his people against an undefeated army of malevolent pickles.

5 p.m.: "The Ultimate Gift" -- A wealthy businessman tries to teach his spoiled grandson an important lesson from beyond the grave. Abigail Breslin, James Garner star.

5:45 p.m.: "Veggie Tales: The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's" -- Family adventure with the message: There's no place like home.

7 p.m.: "The List" -- Director Gary Wheeler will field questions after the screening of this movie about an ancient, life-changing covenant.

7:15 p.m.: "Amazing Grace" -- Sumptuous period piece about William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) and his struggle to pass a law to end the slave trade in late 18th-century England.

9:20 p.m.: "Thr3e" -- Psychological Christian thriller about a seminary student under attack, based on the book by Ted Dekker

9:30 p.m.: "The Second Chance" -- Grammy winner Michael W. Smith plays a polished, out-of-touch pastor whose beliefs are tested when he teams up with a street-smart minister.

Saturday

11:45 a.m.: "Veggie Tales: The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's"

Noon: "Hermie and Friends" -- Two tales with Buzby, the misbehaving bee.

1:30 p.m.: "The Ten Commandments" -- Animated Bible story, with voices of Christian Slater as Moses, Alfred Molina as Ramses, Elliott Gould as God and Ben Kingsley as the narrator.

3:15 p.m.: "Facing the Giants"

3:45 p.m.: "Veggie Tales: God Made You Special"

5 p.m.: "End of the Spear" -- Dramatization of the real-life murders of five American missionaries by an isolated Amazon tribe in 1956 and what happens when brutality is met by faith and forgiveness.

5:30 p.m.: "Amazing Grace"

7:15 p.m.: "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie" -- Three misfits must become unlikely heroes and rescue a royal family.

7:40 p.m.: "The Ultimate Gift"

9:15 p.m.: "The List"

9:45 p.m.: "Midnight Clear" -- Christmas Eve in the Arizona desert provides the backdrop for this story about a middle-age man and old woman who contemplate suicide. Chance encounters with strangers and perhaps divine intervention allow them to cross paths and change each other's life.

Sunday

1 p.m.: "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything..."

1:15 p.m.: "The Ten Commandments"

2:45 p.m.: "Saving Sarah Cain" -- Adaptation of Beverly Lewis novel, "The Redemption of Sarah Cain," about a Portland, Ore., woman who becomes legal guardian to her five Amish nieces and nephews.

3:30 p.m.: "Veggie Tales: The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's"

4:30 p.m.: "The Last Sin Eater"

4:45 p.m.: "The Ultimate Gift"

6:45 p.m.: "End of the Spear"
