A Clairton teen was arrested today and charged with homicide and other offenses in the death of an elderly woman who was found stabbed in her home.

County and Clairton police arrested Johnie Washington III, 15, in McKeesport; he was to be arraigned in Municipal Court. He is charged with homicide, burglary, robbery and theft and will be prosecuted as an adult in the death of Florence Ranta, county police said.

Ms. Ranta, 82, of Third Street, Clairton, died Oct. 10 in Mercy Hospital, four days after neighbors found her lying on the floor of her home with stab wounds to the head and neck. Police said they believed she had been robbed.

Her Toyota Corolla was found a short distance from her home. Some of her belongings also were discovered on North Sixth Street.
