Man is 100th arrested in state's online sex stings
Dubious distinction
Saturday, October 13, 2007

A Greensburg man got the unflattering distinction yesterday of becoming the 100th arrest in the state attorney general's two-year battle against online child predators.

Scott Logan, 29, of Highland Avenue, was arrested yesterday morning, just hours before a news conference at which Attorney General Tom Corbett announced the arrest milestone.

"It's probably becoming easier for our people to spot [child predators] on the Internet," Mr. Corbett said.

His Child Predator Unit, comprising six agents and two attorneys working full time, was formed in September 2005.

Investigators said Mr. Logan believed he had made Internet contact with a 13-year-old girl on Aug. 21 in a teen chat room. He actually was communicating with an adult undercover agent stationed in Harrisburg.

According to the affidavit that supports his arrest, within minutes of making contact, the suspect offered and sent sexually explicit photos to the agent.

Mr. Logan was arraigned yesterday on charges of making unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility.

The agents made their 99th arrest Oct. 10 based on a chat May 23 between the undercover agent and Christopher Lee Glaister, 29, of Mercer.

A criminal complaint said Mr. Glaister, less than a minute after contacting what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, sent a picture of a nude man to her.

He was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Lorinda Hinch in Mercer on the same charges as Mr. Logan, and a count of providing obscene and other sexual materials and performances.

All of the charges against both men are third-degree felonies, punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Mr. Corbett said yesterday that prosecutors have a perfect record for convicting those suspects who have had trials.

The backdrop at yesterday's news conference was a brick wall bearing glossy photos of 95 men arrested since the stings began. Some of the men have been arrested more than once, adding to the total of arrests, Mr. Corbett said.
