Firefighters have put out a fire in a Springdale Borough veterinary hospital. The veterinarian's family and two animals got out safely.
The fire began shortly before noon at Jasmine Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Mark Jasmine said he was in the middle of an operation to spay a dog when his sons, who were on the second floor, alerted him to the fire. There was only one other animal, a cat, in the clinic at the time. Dr. Jasmine said his 8-year-old son was home sick from school, and was with his other sons, ages 3 and 4.
Dr. Jasmine got his sons and the animals out of the building, then completed the operation on the dog in the parking lot.
Jasmine Veterinary Hospital on Pittsburgh Street is a two-story building, and the fire has destroyed the second floor. Pittsburgh Street is closed, and several fire departments are on the scene fighting the blaze.
