Classical Music News: PSO names general manager

The Pittsburgh Symphony has promoted Marcie Solomon to the position of general manager. Solomon has been working in the orchestra operations department since 2002.

The Squirrel Hill resident has a bachelor's in double bass performance and a master of arts in management from Carnegie Mellon University. She is a former management fellow with the American Symphony Orchestra League.

Opera singer wins award

Mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe, who stars in Pittsburgh Opera's "Aida" in the spring, has won an Opera News Award for artistic excellence.
