PG North: Area grads pace Westminster soccer team

Mars Area High School graduates Mallory Bugel and Mandy Bearrow and North Allegheny grad Kristen Martin are starters on the Westminster College women's soccer team, which is off to a 7-2-2 start.

Bugel is a senior forward who was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year the past two years. She entered this season ranked fourth in school history with 33 career goals and 24 assists, but sustained a knee injury in the Titans first game. She recently returned to the lineup and has scored two goals.

Martin is a senior defender who has scored three goals and assisted on another. Bearrow is a senior defender who has three assists. Martin and Bearrow lead a Titans defense that has recorded seven shutouts.

North Hills grad on the run

North Hills graduate Ryan Lehmeier was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 229 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in his first start for Slippery Rock University, a 31-24 win over East Stroudsburg.

Lehmeier, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound redshirt freshman, was filling in for teammate and conference rushing leader Corey Manfull, who was out with a shoulder injury.

NA grad a W&J standout

North Allegheny graduate Amanda Howard was named the Empire 8 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week on Sept. 23.

Howard, a senior forward at Washington & Jefferson College, ranks second on the team in goals with five and leads with four assists.

Howard has started all 66 games for W&J over the past four years.

P-R grad nets an honor

Pine-Richland graduate Blakeley Mall was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Mall, a freshman at Waynesburg University, has a 5-4 record as the Yellow Jackets No. 2 singles player.

She also pairs with teammate Laura Garcia to form Waynesburg's No. 1 doubles team. They have a 3-6 doubles record.
