While reading Shelly Anderson's story about Rob Scuderi today, we noticed a brief mention that Scuderi is the player with the longest uninterrupted connection to the Penguins organization.

So that got us to wondering how Scuderi's time with the Penguins stacks up against the service times of other players who have been tied to their franchises the longest.

It also gave us an excuse make a list, and there isn't anything we like to do more in life than make lists.

Penguins

-Sidney Crosby practiced today after sitting out Monday's practice with a foot injury.

-Crosby is expected to play Wednesday against Montreal.

-The Penguins signed center Dustin Jeffrey to an entry level contract.

Atlantic Division

-Some teams, like the Penguins, conduct team-building exercises at military academies. Other teams, like the Flyers, do it with Legos.

Northeast Division

-Maple Leafs forward Jason Blake was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. Amazingly, he doesn't plan on missing any playing time due to the illness.

Southeast Division

-Lightning goon Andre Roy, a former Penguin, wants more playing time. Apparently no one told Roy you need to actually have skill in order to get quality minutes in the NHL.

Central Division

-It looks like things could get better in Chicago with Rocky Wirtz in charge.

-A deal to keep the Predators in Nashville is "very close."

-Surprisingly, it's kind of tough to maintain a solid ice surface in a southern city when it's warm.

-Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios scored his first goal since 1952 in a 4-2 defeat of the Oilers Monday.

Pacific Division

-Kings forward Patrick O'Sullivan hates his teeth.

-The Coyotes claimed defenseman Freddy Meyer off waivers from the Islanders.

Northwest Division

-James Mirtle figures out where Avalanche center Joe Sakic is on the all-time scoring lists.

-Bob Owen, a member of the "original miracle on ice team," the 1960 United States Olympic hockey team that won gold, died in a fire Friday.

-A reader in attendance for Friday's 4-0 loss at Carolina disagreed with our assessment of Sidney Crosby's play:

"Actually, Sidney Crosby was very visible throughout the entire game. The Hurricanes fans sitting around me were practically (wetting) their pants every time he touched the puck. The main problem was that Cam Ward was playing the game of his life and the Crosby's linemates seemed a beat slow. After each of his shifts they had to get the guys with the squeegees to scoop up some defenseman's ashes.
