The Penguins today named winger Mark Recchi a full-time alternate captain and announced that defenseman Sergei Gonchar will wear an "A" for home games while winger Gary Roberts will wear it on the road.
Recchi, 39, has been an alternate captain for years in the NHL, including the past three seasons with the Penguins. Gonchar, 33, is entering his third season in the role. Roberts, 41, who joined the Penguins in a trade in February, is taking on the role with this club for the first time.
In May, the Penguins named center Sidney Crosby, 20, the youngest captain in the league.
