A former Penn State University football player yesterday was found guilty of first- and third-degree murder and ordered to spend life in prison without parole.
A Centre County jury yesterday convicted Lavon Chisley, 23, of stabbing a friend, Langston Carraway, 26, more than 90 times in what police said was a robbery made to look like a hate crime.
Mr. Carraway was found dead on the couch of his apartment in State College on June 3, 2006. A bloody glove found near the victim was later found to contain DNA that matched Mr. Chisley's.
Mr. Chisley played defensive end for the Nittany Lions from 2002 to 2004. He was declared academically ineligible for what would have been his senior season.
Centre County Judge Charles C. Brown Jr. sentenced Mr. Chisley shortly after the verdict. The first-degree murder conviction carried an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole.
