Hempfield Area graduate Amber Santavy, an outside hitter for the California University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team, ranks third on the team in kills and digs.
Santavy, a 5-foot-9 senior, has 123 kills in 44 games for an average of 2.8 per game. She also has 170 digs for an average of 3.86.
"Amber is a four-year letterman who has played different roles during her career," said California coach Melissa Myers. "It's great to have a player with her versatility."
In her career, Santavy has recorded 500 kills and 427 digs.
Sisters make net gains
Mount Pleasant residents Kristin and Natalie Hozak are starters on the Saint Vincent College women's volleyball team,
Kristin is a 5-8 senior setter, while Natalie is a 5-9 freshman outside hitter.
Both are graduates of Geibel High School. Their mother is Saint Vincent coach Susan Hozak, a Norwin graduate who began the Bearcats program in 1985.
Kristin leads the team with 726 assists (14.24 per game) and 39 serving aces (0.76 per game).
Natalie ranks second on the team with 149 kills (3.04 per game) and first with 222 digs (4.53 per game).
Burrell grad makes a racket
Burrell graduate Rachel Jack recorded three victories for the Westminster College women's tennis team in a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference wins over the weekend.
The Titans posted 9-0 victories over Washington & Jefferson and Bethany to improve their conference record to 4-1 and overall mark to 6-3.
Jack, a freshman, recorded a singles victory in both matches and a doubles win against Bethany.
She has a 7-2 record as Westminster's No. 5 singles player, and is 2-1 in doubles competition.
Seneca Valley High School graduate Laurie Lindner is approaching two milestones for the Waynesburg University women's volleyball team.
Lindner, a 5-foot-7 junior outside hitter, has recorded 976 kills and 856 digs during her career. The last Waynesburg player to eclipse the 1,000 mark in both categories was 2002 graduate Brittany Morrow.
Lindner is a three-year starter for the Yellow Jackets who was named to the second team of the Presidents' Athletic Conference All-Star Team the last two years. She broke into the starting lineup in 2005 and was named PAC Rookie of the Year after leading Waynesburg with 402 kills (3.59 per game) and 223 digs (1.99 per game).
As a sophomore, she had 387 kills (3.39 per game) and 431 digs. This season, she has 187 kills (3.67 per game) and 202 digs (3.96 per game).
Winning the race
Pine-Richland graduate Bobby Regan won the first individual title of his collegiate cross country career at the Allegheny College Cross Country Classic on Saturday.
Regan, a junior at Washington & Jefferson College topped the 67-runner field in the 8K race with a time of 27:47. The Presidents took fourth place in the event.
