Local arts and cultural organizations have opened their doors for a series of free events in recent years, their way of saying thank you for the public support they get through the 1 percent Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) tax.
RADical Days, in its sixth year, launches today and runs through Oct. 7, with a Pittsburgh Cultural District gallery crawl on Oct. 19.
Organizations that receive RAD funding will present music, dance and theater performances, tours, family activities, plus free admission on designated days to attractions such as Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, Carnegie Science Center and more. Several libraries throughout the county are presenting storytelling and puppet shows.
More than 150,000 people have visited RADical Days events in the past six years, with more than 36,000 taking advantage of the free events last year.
