Monday Morning Long Snapper

A couple of thoughts as Colin Dunlap clears out his notebook:

I just don't know how to take this ...

The following is a press released we received here at the Post-Gazette ... I can't figure out if this is fun or disgusting or somewhere in between:

Frownie Challenges Local High School Football Players to Pie Eating Contest; Kings Family Restaurants Kicks Off 40th Anniversary and Treats Customers to 45 Cent Pie

PITTSBURGH - For 40 years, Kings Family Restaurant, Western Pennsylvania's favorite family restaurant chain, has been known for making a "Mean Dessert." To help kick off their yearlong 40th anniversary celebration, Hartley King and Frownie - the brownie with an attitude - will unleash four area high school football teams on one of the restaurant's most famous desserts by hosting the Frownie Brownie High School Football Pie Eating Challenge.

On Tuesday, September 25, as a part of Kings 40th anniversary celebration, varsity football players from Gateway, East Allegheny, Serra Catholic and Norwin high schools will devour cinnamon apple pie in a contest at the original Kings Restaurant in North Versailles, Pa. Diners can join in on the fun by purchasing a slice of Kings' famous cinnamon apple pie for its original 1967 price of 45 cents at all store locations.

Goodbye, old friend

Although it has yet to be officially announced, sources have confirmed that one of the most affable coaches in the WPIAL has coached his final game. Longtime Bishop Canevin baseball coach Red Locke won't be back this year.

Locke, always tremendously quick witted and very quotable, has accomplished a whole lot as the Crusaders' coach and, undoubtedly, will be missed.

Jarvis update

Former Central Catholic standout running back and Post-Gazette two-time player of the year Eugene Jarvis is tearing it up at Kent State.

Here's what he did on Saturday, and here are his season stats:

In 4 games, he has 95 rushes for 550 yards, at 5.7 yards per carry and 134.8 yards per game and 5 touchdowns.
