District Roundup: Hough's overtime TD lifts Duquesne to win

Greg Hough ran 8 yards for a touchdown in overtime to lift visiting Duquesne to a 30-23 victory at Sacred Heart in a non-league game yesterday.

Hough, who carried 20 times for 107 yards, also scored on a 4-yard run in the first quarter to give the Dukes (1-2) a 7-0 lead.

Sacred Heart scored touchdowns on Dale Fink's 26-yard pass to Joey Henley and Jason Payne's 40-yard run as Sacred Heart (2-2) led, 14-7, after the first quarter.

Duquesne made it 20-14 at halftime on Mark Troyan's field goals of 26 and 25 yards and Kevin Rombach's 5-yard pass to Michael Rasky. The Dukes made it 23-14 late in the third quarter on Troyan's 35-yard field goal.

Sacred Heart made it 23-17 on Joe Schroeder's 25-yard field goal and tied it at 23-23 on John Wilson's 18-yard return of a blocked punt with 9:14 remaining. The kick for the extra point failed.

Rombach, a redshirt sophomore making his first start of the season in place of Scott Knapp, completed 29 of 41 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown. He was not sacked and didn't throw an interception. Bruce Hocker had eight catches for 96 yards.

Duquesne is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Sacred Heart is in the Northeast Conference. The Dukes will join the Northeast Conference next season when they begin to offer athletic scholarships.

Robert Morris 9, Morehead State 8: Karey Murray scored on a 2-yard run with 20 seconds to play to cap a five-play, 64-yard drive in the final two minutes. The Colonials (3-1) rallied from an 8-0 halftime deficit to defeat the host Eagles (2-1). Morehead State took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on Josh Harris' 97-yard interception return and added a safety to make it 8-0 at halftime.

Robert Morris cut its deficit to 8-3 on Michael Walser's 20-yard field goal late in the third quarter,

Robert Morris' Erik Cwalinski completed 19 of 26 passes for 274 yards and was sacked six times for minus-47 yards. The Colonials had minus-31 yards rushing on 30 carries. Alvin Hill had seven catches for 164 yards.

IUP 45, Millersville 0: IUP, ranked 22nd in the American Football Coaches Division II poll, is 3-0 for the first time since 2003 and posted its first shutout since a 17-0 win against Shippensburg in 2004. Millersville (0-4) has not scored an offensive touchdown this season.

IUP's Andrew Krewatch completed 16 of 29 passes for 243 yards and a 60-yard touchdown to Mychal Skinner. Anthony Cellitti led IUP with eight catches for 86 yards, all in the first half. Poohbear McNeal carried eight times for 55 yards and Pat McDanel carried 11 times for 52 yards and Kareem Dutrieuille carried 12 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

Edinboro 41, Cheyney 23: Sophomore quarterback Trevor Harris threw four touchdown passes for the third consecutive game as the Fighting Scots (3-1) won for the third time in a row and Cheyney remained winless (0-4). Harris completed 16 of 22 passes for 241 yards and touchdowns of 5 and 43 yards to Ryan Rybicki, 36 yards to Rich Cerro and 32 yards to Denayne Dixon.

Cerro had four catches for 69 yards; Rybicki three for 50 yards; Dixon three for 48 yards and Kyle Witucki three for 46 yards. Houston Brown carried 16 times for 92 yards and a 6-yard touchdown and Ulysee Davis had 12 carries for 77 yards and a 5-yard touchdown.

Seton Hill 34, Glenville State 27: Matt Dowdell threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Stephens in overtime as host Seton Hill (1-2, 1-0) withstood a second-half rally by Glenville State (2-3, 1-1) in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

This was the first WVIAC football game played outside the state of West Virginia since 1932, Seton Hill's first overtime game and its first WVIAC victory.

Dowdell completed 12 of 24 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns and Antwarn Jones carried 26 times for 227 yards and touchdowns of 1, 14 and 55 yards.

Seton Hill led, 7-3, after the first quarter and 27-6 at halftime. Glenville State made it 17-13 after three quarters and tied it, 27-27, on Kames McCants' 9-yard touchdown pass to Jason Burton with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.

Thomas More 8, Thiel 6: The host Tomcats (1-3, 0-1) scored a touchdown on Willie Bova's 12-yard pass to Brett Helman with 1:55 left, but Bova's pass for the 2-point conversion was incomplete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference game. Thomas More (2-1-1, 1-1) led, 8-0, after the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Cordario Collier, who carried 28 times for 132 yards.
