WPIAL Class AAA Roundup: Balanced Blackhawk upsets No. 2-ranked Hopewell

Bryan Stefanik rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown, and Zach Hayward threw for 154 yards and a touchdown to lead Blackhawk to a 31-15 upset of Hopewell in the Parkway Conference.

Hopewell (3-1, 1-1) entered the game ranked No. 2 in Class AAA in the WPIAL, while Blackhawk (3-1, 1-0) was unranked.

Stefanik capped the Cougars' scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run. Hayward completed 9 of 13 passes, including a 40-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Roorback, who had four catches for 101 yards.

Hopewell had only 183 yard in total offense and turned the ball over three times. Blackhawk had 371 yards in total offense and did not turn the ball over.

Knoch 25, Pine-Richland 20

Zach Gross threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Rob Briggs in the final two minutes to lead the unranked Knights (3-1, 2-0) to a Greater Allegheny Conference upset of No. 3 Pine-Richland (3-1, 1-1).

Gross also connected with Kyle Reiser on a 28-yard scoring pass. Tim McNerney also scored on runs of 2 and 68 yards for Knoch.

Pine-Richland scored on a 27-yard pass from Vinny Nittoli to Zach Richart, a 55-yard run by Ian Hennessy, and field goals of 25 and 38 yards.

Thomas Jefferson 42, Moon 8

Tyler Wehner threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Jaguars (4-0) in a non-conference road victory against Moon (0-4).

Wehner completed 11 of 16 passes and connected with Trevor Wildman on scoring passes of 29 and 52. Brock and Zach DeCicco also caught touchdown passes. Wehner scored on a 1-yard sneak.

Highlands 36, Uniontown 18

Jeff Sinclair completed 20 of 29 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns, as No. 5 Highlands (4-0) remains unbeaten with a non-conference win against Uniontown (1-3).

Sinclair connected with Josh Susa on scoring passes of 3 an 5 yards, and with Steve Panchik from 23 yards out.

Franklin Regional 35, Hampton 7

Anthony Vendemia completed 6 of 8 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Panthers (2-2, 1-1) to their first Greater Allegheny Conference victory.

Vendemia connected with Jim Hart on a 96-yard touchdown pass and with J.W. Gulaskey on a 12-yard scoring pass.

Franklin Regional also scored on a 4-yard run by Chad Bowman, a 20-yard run by Seve Franceschetti, and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Nate Plonsky.

Chartiers Valley 44, Trinity 17

Jim Riley scored on runs of 20 and 6 yards and returned a fumble 15 yards for another score, as Chartiers Valley (3-1, 2-0) rolled to an easy victory against Trinity (2-2, 0-1) in the Big Seven Conference. John Burda completed 6 of 10 passes for 110 yards for the Colts, and connected with Corey O'Patchen on a 59-yard touchdown pass.

West Mifflin 34, Peters Township 26

Mike Neckerman connected with T.J. Williams on touchdowns passes of 65, 29, and 4 yards to lead the Titans (2-2, 1-1) to a Big Seven Conference victory against Peters Township (1-3, 0-2). Neckerman completed 10 of 16 passes for 182 yards, including four to Williams for 105 yards. Peters Township's Tyler Porco threw touchdowns of 35 and 57 yards to Justin Conelly and Joe Smith.

Keystone Oaks 42, Eliz. Forward 21

John Fuhrer rushed for 120 yards on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the visiting Golden Eagles (3-1, 2-0) to a Big Seven Conference victory against winless Elizabeth Forward (0-4, 0-2). Fuhrer scored on runs of 4, 18, and 15 yards.

Keystone Oaks also scored on a 56-yard interception return by Dion Wiegand, a 12-yard fumble return by Justin Bush, and a 12-yard pass from Corey Bellovich to Jonathan Lorenzi. Bellovich completed 11 of 13 passes for 153 yards.

Indiana 49, Greensburg Salem 7

Ben Fiscus scored on runs of 1, 1, and 15 yards, while Andy Degory ran 1 and 5 yards for touchdowns, as Indiana (3-1, 1-1) rolled to an easy win against Greensburg Salem (1-3, 0-2) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Degory rushed for 168 yards on 13 carries.

Mount Pleasant 10, Belle Vernon 7

Matt Remaley kicked a 20-yard field goal with 1:30 left to give Mount Pleasant (3-1, 2-0) the winning points in this Keystone Conference victory against visiting Belle Vernon (0-4, 0-1).

Mt. Pleasant also scored on a 9-yard run by Jake Hoffer, who rushed for 129 yards on 32 carries. Belle Vernon scored its only points on a 72-yard run by Shane Curran.

Ringgold 24, Laurel Highlands 8

Simon Bekavac rushed for 110 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 16 and 5 yards to lead Ringgold (1-3, 1-1) to its first victory in a Keystone Conference game against Laurel Highlands (1-3, 1-1). Jordan Fowler threw for 140 yards and a touchdown for the Rams.

Albert Gallatin 19, Derry 14

Anthony Stevenson thew a 10-yard touchdown pass to Zach Trump in the fourth quarter to provide the winning points for Albert Gallatin (1-3, 1-1) in a Keystone Conference game against Derry (0-4, 0-2).
