Port Authority plans to buy, demolish SportsWorks
Friday, September 21, 2007

A Port Authority committee today recommended the purchase and eventual demolition of the SportsWorks facility adjacent to the Carnegie Science Center on the North Side.

The full board is set to act on the purchase next week.

Port Authority plans to pay $5 million for SportsWorks, which will be cleared for tracks for the North Shore Connector, the extension of the light-rail line to the North Side.

Demolition will not occur until after the current "Bodies" exhibit ends its run at the center next year.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
