The NHL today officially announced that the Penguins and Buffalo Sabres will play in an outdoor game Jan. 1 at Ralph Wilson Stadium, home to the NFL's Buffalo Bills.
The AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic will be televised by NBC at 1 p.m. It is the league's first outdoor game played in the United States, and the NHL hopes to break its single-game attendance record of 57,167 set Nov. 22, 2003, when Edmonton played host to Montreal in the outdoor Heritage Classic.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. at www.Ticketmaster.com, www.pittsburghpenguins.com, www.NHL.com and the Buffalo Bills ticket offices, but not at the Mellon Arena ticket offices.
