Central Catholic has three venues for home games this season. The Vikings' home opener last night was at the Wolvarena in Turtle Creek against undefeated Mt. Lebanon.
Even though Central Catholic was No. 1 in the Post-Gazette's WPIAL and PIAA Class AAAA rankings, the Blue Devils were expected to provide a challenge. Instead, the Vikings made themselves at home, rolling to leads of 21-0 at halftime and 35-0 in the fourth quarter en route to a 35-7 victory.
D.J. Myers led Central Catholic (3-0), scoring touchdowns three ways: on a 7-yard run, a 3-yard pass from Tino Sunseri and a 52-yard punt return. He had not scored in the previous two games.
Jeff Knox gained 76 yards on 14 carries, including a 5-yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter. Andrew Taglianetti made it 14-0 in the second on a 55-yard interception return.
Central limited Mt. Lebanon (2-1) to five first downs, 110 yards of offense and one score, Dave Offner's 1-yard bolt.

North Allegheny 47, Woodland Hills 0
Geoff Greco scored three touchdowns to lead the Tigers to an easy triumph against the visiting Wolverines.
Greco ran for scores of 1 yard and 4 yards and on a 14-yard pass from Mike Locke to lead the Tigers (3-0), who are No. 3 in the WPIAL. Karl DeCiantis, Alex Papson and Jared Congedo added touchdown runs and Brad Comport scored on a 22-yard return following a fumble recovery.
The Wolverines fumbled seven times, losing all of them, to drop to 0-3 for the first time since 1992.
Upper St. Clair 41, Connellsville 0
Grant Serdy scored three touchdowns, including a 95-yard return of the second-half kickoff as the Panthers left Fayette County with their 19th consecutive victory.
Serdy gained 131 yards on 18 carries, including scores of 8 and 2 yards. Oliver Hawk and Brett Scheller added 1-yard touchdowns, and Clay Ilkin closed the scoring with a 2-yard bolt for Upper St. Clair (3-0), No. 4 in the WPIAL. The Falcons dropped to 1-2.
Penn Hills 18, North Hills 15
Tom Fulton's second touchdown pass of the night to Dontae Brown, a 5-yarder in the fourth quarter, gave Penn Hills a come-from behind victory at home.
Fulton completed 15 of 30 for 202 yards, including scores of 30 yards to Brandon Ifill and 1 yard and 5 yards to Brown. Penn Hills (1-2) had started 0-2 for the first time since 1997.
North Hills (1-2) opened the scoring, though, when Ed Reith scampered 7 yards in the first quarter. North Hills went up, 15-12, in the fourth on Reith's 4-yard ruin and Justin Heinauer's 2-point conversion pass to Zach Gall.
Fox Chapel 19, Butler 17
Kyle Majerick's second field goal, a 27-yarder in the final quarter, gave the Foxes a come-from-behind triumph against the visiting Golden Tornado. Fox Chapel (1-2) took a 16-0 first-quarter lead on Majerick 42-yard field goal, Tom Listwak's recovery of a fumble in the end zone and Stan Griffin's 33-yard run.
The Golden Tornado (0-3) rallied, though, as Colt Harvey threw two touchdown passes sandwiched around a Ryan Soule field goal for a 17-16 edge in the third quarter.
Shaler 15, Plum 13
Quarterback R.J. Palso's 1-yard run in the fourth quarter enabled the visiting Titans to come from behind and remain undefeated.
Palso completed 7 of 12 passes for 125 yards, including an 11-yard score to Drew Stanny in the final quarter that gave Shaler (3-0) its first lead. 9-7.
Eric Gamboa opened the scoring on a 7-yard run in the first quarter for Plum (1-2). Stanny hit a 30-yard field goal in the first, and it remained 7-3 until the fourth. Stanny's score put Shaler ahead briefly, but Kyle Simmons' 24-yard keeper put the Mustangs up 13-9.
Erie Cathedral Prep 28, Hempfield 21
The host Spartans (1-2) held a 21-14 advantage in the third quarter, but couldn't hold on against Prep.
Patrick Barber completed 10 of 19 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns for Prep.
Nick Higinbotham gained 115 yards on 10 carries and scored once and Ryan Hayden had 110 on 14 carries for Hempfield. Teammate R.J. Thomas had two touchdowns.
Seneca Valley 19, Kiski Area 0
C.J. Brown ran for one touchdown and passed for one and Ryan Zipf kicked field goals of 23 and 42 yards, as the Raiders (2-1) surprised the visiting Cavaliers (2-1).
Brown completed 13 of 22 for 135 yards, including a 15-yard score to Matt Plautz in the first quarter. Brown bolted 1 yard for a score.
Josh Vick was 13 of 26 for 122 yards for Kiski.
Canon-McMillan 56, Latrobe 14
The Big Macs started fast, opening a 27-9 halftime lead, and cruised to a victory against the visiting Wildcats.
Jeravin Matthews scored three times for Canon-McMillan (2-1), on runs of 43, 9 and 59 yards. He gained 121 yards on six carries. Teammate Michael Hull carried 10 times for 156, and J.D. Billy added 101 yards on two carries.
The Big Macs had 508 yards of total offense.
Latrobe (1-2) got touchdowns from Ryan Kissel on a 75-yard kickoff return and Eric Schaffer on a 1-yard carry.
Gateway 35, Baldwin 7
The Gators (2-1), No. 2 in the WPIAL and PIAA rankings, routed the visiting Highlanders (1-2).
McKeesport 19, Penn-Trafford 9
The visiting Tigers (2-1) returned from Westmoreland County with a triumph against the Warriors (0-3).
