Penn State quarterback Anthony Morelli temporarily lost his cool yesterday.
He became agitated during a conference call with reporters when it was pointed out that some critics believe the Nittany Lions beat Notre Dame, 31-10, Saturday at Beaver Stadium despite his play.
"I don't know how I didn't have a good game," Morelli said. "We won the football game. So many people are so caught up on stats. Stats are so overrated. I'm so tired of hearing about it. It's so ridiculous. It's just unbelievable. No one's ever satisfied with a victory."
Morelli, a senior tri-captain from Penn Hills High School, hit on 12 of 21 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Irish. He was sacked twice and lost a fumble.
For the season, he has completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 426 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.
And Penn State's offense has converted 13 of 13 scoring chances in the red zone, with 11 touchdowns and two field goals. The Lions are 2-0.
"Last year, we weren't too good at it," Morelli said. "But we've put different red-zone packages in now. When we get down there, we're a little more patient and we're executing better."
