The Clarion University football team is using a combination of players from the PG East area to get the job done at quarterback.
Penn-Trafford graduate Tyler Huether and Plum grad Gino Rometo have each started one game at quarterback for the Golden Eagles.
Huether, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound sophomore, completed 14 of 32 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown Saturday against Kutztown, but also had three passes intercepted.
Rometo, a 6-2, 195-pound redshirt freshman, completed 19 of 46 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown in Clarion's opener against Tiffin.
Central grad honored
Central Catholic graduate Jon Scholl was named University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Carnegie Mellon's 33-10 season-opening win over the University of Rochester.
Scholl, a 5-11, 190-pound senior cornerback from Coraopolis, headed a Tartans defense that held Rochester to 44 yards on the ground and 186 yards of total offense. He recorded a career-high 14 tackles, including eight solo stops and 1.5 for a loss, and forced a fumble.
A standout for IUP
Woodland Hills graduate Kareem Dutrieuille scored two touchdowns for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Saturday's 80-14 win over Cheyney.
Dutrieuille, a 5-9, 240-pound junior, rushed for 49 yards on 10 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 7 and 13 yards. He also caught two passes for 22 yards.
