One of Cranberry's oldest businesses is expanding to tap into a growing market.
The Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home soon will add a crematorium at its location off Wisconsin Road. Plans were presented to township supervisors Aug. 30 at a public hearing that drew no comments for or against the project.
Cremation is becoming a more frequently requested option in the funeral business, landscape architect David Lucci told township supervisors. "People are doing this more now than in the past,'' he said.
The Glenn-Kildoo building will be expanded to 11,800 square feet on the 2.8-acre site and about 100 parking spaces will be added to the 56 spaces that are there now.
The crematorium operation will be licensed by the state Department of Environmental Protection. Planning Director Ron Henshaw said he has been assured that the equipment is so efficient it can be used while a funeral is taking place.
"There is no noise, no smoke, no odor,'' Mr. Henshaw said.
