Cash for critters
This is a suggestion regarding the Michael Vick case ("Vick Pleads Guilty, Apologizes for Dogfights," Aug. 27). Mr. Vick, in lieu of jail time, should continue playing football. His sentence should be: For the next five years one-third of his salary will be donated to animal shelters.
If Mr. Vick is sentenced to prison he will be an unproductive member of society. This way, we will not have to use our money to support him while he is in jail, he will be a productive member of society and when the five years are up he won't be jobless and on welfare.
Since Mr. Vick has admitted to wrongdoing and apologized, he may agree to this arrangement. His money would benefit more animals and do more good than putting him in jail. My vote is for "Money for Animals."

Turn the tables
Michael Vick is losing millions in endorsements? Good! Suspended by the NFL? Great! Might do jail time? Excellent! But after he's done his time, let's welcome him back to football and renew his contract -- with one new stipulation: If the team's owners or coaches are unhappy with his performance, they can take him down to the lake and drown him or hang him. Sound fair?

Subhuman
I was incredulous and sickened to read that Dr. R.L. White, head of the Atlanta NAACP, still supported Michael Vick, even after Mr. Vick admitted torturing and killing defenseless animals.
I believe Mr. Vick's subhuman behavior warrants his being ostracized, not only from the NFL but from society in general. I regard him as being in the same league as another infamous individual who enjoyed torturing animals -- Jeffrey Dahmer.

Out of context
Let me say I am an animal lover and do not condone the actions of Michael Vick. But what smart aleck at the Post-Gazette decided that Mr. Vick should have been included on the Aug. 25 front page along with James Ford Seale, a reputed Ku Klux Klan member who took part in killing two black teenagers; John Couey, a child killer, and Lisa Nowak, a head case fighting over a man?
Come on. Michael Vick used poor judgment, but in no way is he in the same category with those three. Stupidity is one thing; hate crimes, murder and the charge of attempted kidnapping are quite another.
