Here are 10 games this season that will be worth the price of admission:
SEPT. 1
Gateway vs.
Cardinal Mooney (Ohio) -- This game will be played at Fawcett
Stadium in Canton, a two-hour drive from Pittsburgh. But it would
be worth the trip. Gateway is the preseason No. 1 Class AAAA team
in the state and Cardinal Mooney is the three-time defending state
champion in Division IV. Two Cardinal Mooney seniors have already
committed to Penn State, one to Oklahoma and another to Notre
Dame.
SEPT. 7
West Allegheny
at Thomas Jefferson -- The second week of the season brings a
test for Thomas Jefferson, the No. 1 WPIAL Class AAA team. It's a
good chance to see highly-touted lineman Lucas Nix, a Pitt
recruit.
SEPT. 14
Franklin
Regional at Pine-Richland -- Franklin Regional is 24-3 the past
two seasons and Pine-Richland 20-3. Need we say any more?
SEPT. 21
Central
Catholic at Woodland Hills -- Any game in Woodland Hills'
Wolverena is a good thing. Plus, these two have played some classic
games over the years. OCT. 4
Brashear vs.
Oliver -- A Thursday night game on the South Side is a rematch
of last year's City League championship.
OCT. 11
Trinity at
Thomas Jefferson -- This is one of FSN Pittsburgh's Thursday
night games. How will Trinity's dynamic duo of linebackers Andrew
Sweat (Ohio State recruit) and Mike Yancich (Penn State) do against
the premiere team in WPIAL Class AAA?
OCT. 12
Penn Hills at
Gateway -- Penn Hills was a WPIAL Class AAAA finalist last
year. Will a tough schedule start taking its toll on Gateway by
this time of the season?
OCT. 19
Upper St.
Clair at McKeesport -- Upper St. Clair isn't as strong as last
year's PIAA championship team. But the Panthers are still good
enough to win the Great Southern Conference and this showdown might
decide the title.
OCT. 25
Jeannette at
Greensburg Central Catholic -- Want to see all-everything
Jeannette QB Terrelle Pryor? This Thursday night FSN game will be
his toughest test of the regular season.
