TEAM TO BEAT
Hopewell: Running back-linebacker David Posluszny (Notre Dame), lineman Ryan Turnley (Pitt) and running back-linebacker Jared Rains (Cincinnati) all have made verbal commitments to major colleges. Rains was a 1,000-yard rusher last season. The play of QB Mark Javens could be a key.
THE CONTENDERS
West Allegheny: Coach Bob Palko's team is good enough to be in the Class AAA top five. Lineman Jim Muraco, linebacker Ryan Revtai and defensive back Tim Marshall were first-team all-conference a year ago. Zac Sinclair returns at quarterback.
Moon: Keir Jeter is a talented tight end-defensive end. Phil Bondi and Ryan Falbo both figure to see time at QB.
Blackhawk: A number of key players graduated, but Scott Goehring was an all-conference offensive lineman. Bryan Stefanik and A.J. Delmonico return at running back. Brooks Roorback caught 26 passes a year ago.
THE OTHERS
Montour: Michigan recruit Christian Wilson (running back-linebacker) and quarterback E.J. Banks, who are cousins, give the Spartans hope for making their first playoff appearance since 1998.
Ambridge: David Duke returns for his third season as the starting QB. after throwing for more than 1,800 yards the past two years.
New Castle: The Hurricanes feature all-conference defensive lineman Bobby DoVidio.
