WPIAL Class AA Team to Beat: Pryor considerations boost to Jayhawks
Wednesday, August 29, 2007

Most eyes will be focused on Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor during Jayhawks games this season. Coach Ray Reitz likes it that way.

While Pryor is considered the No. 1 player in the country by some scouting services, it's the "other guys" that play a big role in Jeannette grabbing the Post-Gazette's preseason No. 1 Class AA ranking in both the WPIAL and PIAA.

"If teams want to come in and take Terrelle away, that's great," Reitz said. "I'm not saying that to be cocky, but this team is built on balance. Terrelle is the straw that stirs the drink. But we have other good athletes who have a lot of skill and can make plays."

Nine defensive and seven offensive starters return from the team that won the WPIAL Class AA title and lost in the PIAA championship. Jordan Hall rushed for 502 yards as a sophomore last year. Fullback James Derry rushed for 577. Jerry Harris also was a threat at receiver.

Mike Matt could be a force at fullback after missing more than half of last season with an injury.

Jason Marquis is one of the top linemen in the conference.

"Football is about 11 players," Marquis said. "Terrelle is one. He's great and obviously one of the best around, but we still need everyone to come through.

"I would say our offensive line is going to be one of the keys. You hear about all of our skill, but they can't do much without a few blocks."
