Along with "Robot Chicken," "Frisky Dingo" is the least bizarre entry in Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, which is why it's one of my favorites. It's just odd enough, but not so strange as to feature a character called Meatwad. Instead, we get Killface.
Last season, the pale Killface was the bad guy confounded by bureaucracy and inept henchmen. In the season finale, it appeared he destroyed the world with his weapon, the Annihilatrix. But Sunday's season premiere (midnight) reveals he actually saved the Earth, moving its orbit just enough to stop global warming.
Now Killface is hailed as a hero and running for President. His one-plank platform? "Stopped global warming."
When it's suggested he's a one-trick pony, Killface notes, "It's a pretty good trick."
In the season's second episode, "Frisky Dingo" checks in on Xander Crews, now a former porn star living in a cardboard box. But when he learns Killface is running for president, well, you can imagine how the enemies may once again face off.
What I like best about "Frisky Dingo" is that even though it focuses on ridiculous characters, they're not so over-the-top to be wholly unbelievable. There are relateable elements in their situations (sometimes) and they offer their own amusing commentary on the odd scenarios they encounter.
After Killface saves Earth, there's news of a baby penguin stuck on an ice floe. Eventually the penguin winds up in one of Killface's campaign commercials as Killface and the penguin wander through amber waves of grain. "Why would there be a penguin in a wheat field?" a vexed Killface asks. Not a bad question.
