NFL Notebook: Pitt's Revis ends holdout, signs with Jets
Thursday, August 16, 2007
The New York Jets signed first-round pick Darrelle Revis yesterday, ending the touted cornerback's lengthy holdout.

Revis, a star at Pitt who was selected 14th overall after New York traded up to draft him, missed 22 practices -- including a single practice yesterday -- and the team's preseason opener Friday against Atlanta since training camp started July 27.

"We're glad it's over," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said.

The Jets expect Revis to compete for a starting job at cornerback, once he gets up to speed with the defense. Revis was considered one of the best overall cornerbacks in the draft and had an outstanding college career with the Panthers, finishing with 129 tackles and eight interceptions. Tannenbaum said Revis already had received his playbook from coach Eric Mangini and would participate in the team's walkthrough tomorrow. It was uncertain if Revis would play in the Jets' game against Minnesota tomorrow night.

Falcons

If team doctors would allow it, Rod Coleman would make his preseason debut this week when Atlanta visits Buffalo. Atlanta coach Bobby Petrino ruled out that scenario, adding that the Falcons likely won't permit Coleman to play until the season opener at Minnesota. Coleman, a defensive tackle in his 10th NFL season, is tired of rehabilitating his right leg.

Eagles

Jerome McDougle's star-crossed career suffered another blow when the former first-round pick got hurt -- again. This fifth-year defensive end injured his right triceps in Philadelphia's preseason opener and likely will miss the rest of the season. Running back Ryan Moats also could be done for the year with an ankle injury.

Raiders

Coach Lane Kiffin was back at practice after missing the previous two days while being hospitalized for a viral infection. But it was a very different Kiffin, who was under orders from his doctor not to yell or exert energy.

Cardinals

Outside linebacker Chike Okeafor probably will miss the season after having surgery to reattach a torn biceps tendon.

Lions

Detroit placed backup fullback Alan Picard on injured reserve and signed punter Micah Knorr.

Chiefs

Arrowhead Stadium, with the family of the late Lamar Hunt kicking in an extra $50 million, is going to get a $375 million renovation. The 35-year-old home of Kansas City will expand by approximately 500,000 square feet.
