Warm welcome to Braddock
Thursday, August 16, 2007

The "Welcome to Historic Braddock" sign was unveiled Saturday during Braddock's Community Day festivities.

Cast in a metal frame, the 10-foot by 12-foot concrete mosaic was commissioned by Braddock council.

It is the design of James Simon, a Pittsburgh sculptor known for his "Uptown Rhythm" mural at Duquesne University and the 15-foot sculptures known as the "Liberty Avenue Musicians" in Pittsburgh's cultural district.

The mosaic, put together in a studio in the basement of the former First Presbyterian Church at 416 Library St., is the product of a public service art project that partnered Mr. Simon with students from the Braddock Youth Project, the sculptor said.
