Steve and Ami Sciulli are the creative force behind Life In Balance, a musical duo billed as "pioneers in ambient and trance-inducing electro-acoustic music."

The duo recently performed a sound healing meditation session at Yoga on Centre in Shadyside. Participants stretched out on yoga mats and took in the sound and vibrational forces created by Life In Balance.

Steve, a master at woodwind instruments, plays traditional flute; Shakuhatchi, a Japanese end-blown bamboo flute; and the EWI, a synthesized electronic wind instrument. His wife, Ami, plays crystal quartz bowls and assorted percussion wind instruments.

The duo uses these meditation sessions to release inner stress and introduce healing vibrational forces through the body. The sessions last for 45 minutes and participants usually remain prone and in a relaxed state for the entire time.

Steve Sciulli said the duo works "under the assumption that what a person needs, they already have. We provide the sonic environment for the healing to happen within their own DNA strands."
