Work shift to outbound Parkway East this weekend
Wednesday, August 15, 2007

The outbound lanes of the Parkway East and four ramps are to be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until no later than 6 a.m. Monday between Bates Street and the Swissvale-Edgewood interchanges.

The work is part of the continuing reconstruction of the Parkway this summer.

This weekend, the Parkway East will be funneled into one lane outbound to just before the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, where all traffic will be detoured through the city to the Wilkinsburg entry ramp. Most work will be concentrated from the other side of the tunnel to about a half-mile east of the Swissvale-Edgewood interchange.

Other ramps will be closed at Squirrel Hill and Swissvale, as well as the Beechwood Boulevard ramp leading to the inbound parkway.

A two-phase detour will be in effect to keep traffic off Murray Avenue through the heart of the Squirrel Hill business district during business hours.

Between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, traffic will be sent to Forward Avenue, Beechwood Boulevard, Forbes Avenue, Braddock Avenue and Penn Avenue through Wilkinsburg to re-enter the Parkway East toward Monroeville.

At all other hours, Beechwood Boulevard will be excluded as part of the detour and traffic will be routed over Murray Avenue.
