CANTON, Ohio -- The new guy wore his customary mental-warfare all black, paced the sidelines with a purpose and failed to spit on any of his players.
So went Mike Tomlin's Steelers head-coaching debut last night, even if it was only a meaningless exhibition: the Hall of Fame Game.
Preseason records aren't worth keeping, but when this dress rehearsal mattered at least a whit, Tomlin's starters outplayed second-year coach Sean Payton's defending NFC South champions, the New Orleans Saints, and won, 20-7.
