This week On Deck

4 p.m. Tuesday: Before 4 p.m., players can be traded without impingement. After That time, players must clear waivers before they can be traded. Mark Teixeira, Paul Konerko and Ty Winnginton(?!!) seem to be the trade bait of choice this year.

Milestones ...: Only four left-handed pitchers have won 300 games. New York's Tom Glavine (299-197) will be out to make it five when the Mets play the Brewers Tuesday in Milwaukee. FYI: Glavine is 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in three starts at Miller Park.

And more milestones:Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez, who turned 32 Friday, will be the 22nd to join the 500 home run club with his next long ball. The Yankees are in Baltimore today, then begin a three-game set with the White Sox Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.

2007 Diary Short hops

A look back at some of the week's stats, facts and story lines you might have missed:

July 21: Phillies P Jamie Moyer and Padres P David Wells are a combined 88 years, 307 days when they take the mound in San Diego, making it the second-oldest pitching matchup in history. Moyer gets the better of the matchup, 12-4. The oldest matchup, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, was Don Sutton vs. Phil Niekro June 8, 1987 (90 years, 135 days).

Sunday: Think the Pirates have it tough with runners in scoring position? The Nationals finish a four-game series vs. the Rockies 0 for 28, the first to go hitless through a series with RISP since their ancestors, the Expos, May 31-June 2, 1991, vs. the Cubs.

Monday: Alex Rodriguez reaches 100 RBIs in the Yankees' 98th game -- the first Bomber to accomplish the feat -- believe it or not -- since Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio in 1937.

Tuesday: No one can say Bud Selig is merely putting in a token appearance when he decides to show up for a Barry Bonds game at AT&T Park. The game vs. Atlanta goes 13 innings over 4 hours, 8 minutes, and Selig stays for every pitch.

Thursday: When is a milestone not worth celebrating? Phillies P Jose Mesa enters in the seventh inning vs. Washington, making him only the 11th pitcher to appear in 1,000 games. The second batter he faces, Jesus Flores, hits a go-ahead three-run homer and the Phillies lose, 7-6.
