Proof again no one can outrun the weather
Friday, July 27, 2007

A forecast of rain during the program at Pittsburgh's Pa. Motor Speedway near Imperial prompted Miley Motorsports to cancel this week's Topless Tuesday, the track's popular mid-week event.

"We talked with the weather service around 2:30 p.m. and at that time rain was on its way," Ben Miley said. "They also said it was going to rain for a few hours and then off and on during the evening so it was a pretty easy decision to make."

Prior to the information age, a race promoter might have tried to get a race in even with a bleak forecast.

"In the old days, you would have probably gotten that race in," Miley said.

"There's just too much information available. You've got to go with the forecast. Everyone's hearing it, seeing it and unfortunately you just don't get enough fan count with a bad weather forecast."

Topless Tuesday will not be rescheduled this season but will return in 2008. PPMS will be back in action at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
