Notes: The Women's British Open is next week on the Old Course at St. Andrews. ... Michelle Wie, 17, accepted a sponsor exemption and also plans to play at St. Andrews. She hasn't competed since withdrawing from the U.S. Women's Open in June because of a sore left wrist. Wie has withdrawn from two of her past three tournaments, managing to complete only seven rounds this year with an average score of just under 78. She hasn't broken par in competition since the final round at Evian last year, a total of 23 rounds. ... The tournament became an official LPGA Tour event in 2000.
