Nate Smith recovering after Homewood mugging

Longtime labor and civil rights activist Nate Smith Sr. was mugged July 13 on his way to a bus stop not far from his Homewood home.

In the attack, which occurred about 7:30 p.m., Mr. Smith suffered head and eye injuries and required about 18 stitches.

Mr. Smith, 78, is recovering well, family members say.


Correction/Clarification: (Published Aug. 15, 2007) The family of Nate Smith Sr., who was injured in July, has asked that cards not be sent to a mailing address previously listed in this news brief as originally published in July 24 editions.
