Free garden day today at North Park
A free open garden day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon today in the North Park demonstration garden at the corner of East Ingomar Road and Babcock Boulevard.

Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County and Post-Gazette garden columnist Sandy Feather will lead a tour of the garden, discussing its annuals, perennials and herbs. They will also discuss composting and vermiculture, answer questions, and diagnose garden problems. Bring diseased or pest-infected plant parts sealed in plastic bags. Shadyside garden tour
Five gardens in Shadyside will be open to the public beginning at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow for the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training's fifth garden tour.

Tickets are $20. All the gardens are in walking distance. For more information or reservations, call Barbara Tisherman at 412-683-0207.

Ponds, European flowers
Stonebridge Farm Nursery in Economy will hold a European floral arrangement class at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and a pond seminar on Aug. 28 and 29.

Participants will create an arrangement as they stroll through the nursery's cutting gardens. Cost is $20 and covers instruction and flowers. Bring a vase or buy one there. Allow about 1 1/2 hours for the event. Stonebridge is at 2 Merriman Road (on the Red Belt) in Beaver County. Information: 724-266-7312.

The pond seminar will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28 and repeated Aug. 29. Nursery owner Jeff Lopes will discuss pond installation and maintenance, and a Penn State water quality specialist will speak on aquatic plants. Cost is $10. Information, registration: 724-774-3003.

Water garden tour
North Hills Water Gardens will feature ponds and water gardens in the North Hills, South Hills and Monroeville as part of a self-guided tour from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. next Saturday.

Tickets are $15 per person and all proceeds benefit Camp Kon-O-Kwee/Camp Spencer. They're available at North Hills Water Gardens, 1615 Babcock Blvd., and 4195 Old William Penn Highway, Monroeville.

Trax Farms lectures, sales
Trax Farms in Finleyville will hold programs and offer special discounts on shrubs on Aug. 11 and shade plants on Aug. 18.

At 10 a.m. Aug. 11, master gardener Ken Yonek will discuss how to maintain trees and shrubs in the landscape. Learn when and how to prune deciduous and evergreen shrubs, as well as how to diagnose and treat common insect and disease problems.

At 10 a.m. Aug. 18, Trax plant experts will lecture on shade gardening. Both programs are free.

Flower, veggie show
The West Mifflin Garden Club will sponsor its 50th annual Flower and Vegetable Show on Aug. 4-5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in St. Elias Church Social Hall, 4200 Duquesne Road, Munhall.

Hanging baskets, potted plants, cut flowers, cactus, succulents, fruits, vegetables and arrangements from members and non-members will be on display, and plants will be sold.
