Woodley agrees to deal
Thursday, July 19, 2007
The Steelers came to terms with their second-round draft choice yesterday and the agent for top pick Lawrence Timmons believes a deal can be completed before training camp opens on Monday.

Linebacker LaMarr Woodley of Michigan came to an agreement yesterday on a four-year contract. The terms of the deal weren't released.

That gives the Steelers -- the first NFL team scheduled to open training camp -- five of their eight rookie draft choices under contract. Only Timmons, third-rounder Matt Spaeth and fifth-rounder William Gay remain and there's optimism that Timmons will report on time.

"We're hopeful we can get a deal done in time for camp; that's important," agent Drew Rosenhaus said. "Things have progressed the way we would have liked. We've made a lot of headway, particularly the past week."

Rosenhaus said he and his brother and business partner, Jason, hope to arrive in Pittsburgh in the next few days to complete a deal for Timmons, a linebacker from Florida State who was the 15th overall selection in the draft.

Timmons has been working out in Pittsburgh under the supervision of the Steelers, rehabbing an injured groin that kept him off the field for all of spring drills except for the first practice, when the injury occurred.

"He's 100 percent," Rosenhaus said.
