It's back to the basic for Penguins training
Returning to West Point in September
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
The Penguins have signed on for another hitch at West Point.

They are scheduled to spend Sept. 23-26 at the U.S. Military Academy in New York, where their stay during training camp last fall received considerable credit for the team-first mind-set the Penguins displayed during the 2006-07 season

"Back by popular demand," general manager Ray Shero said. "The players really enjoyed it."

Coach Michel Therrien, who is working with West Point officials to formulate an itinerary, said "it's going to be a different format" than in 2006, but declined to give details because he doesn't want his players to know what to expect.

The highlight for most players a year ago was a nighttime exercise intended to recreate situations that could be found on a battlefield. The session was so draining, however, that team officials were compelled to alter their plans for the following day.

That meant calling off an on-ice workout that had been scheduled partly for the benefit of their hosts.

"We'd like to give something back to the cadets," Shero said. "We were going to have an open practice for the cadets on the last day, and our guys couldn't even get out of bed, so we had to cancel practice.

"So we have some unfinished business there."
