Fashion for charity

Local and global peace initiatives will benefit from the sale of a piece of jewelry created by eight designers. Brighton's limited-edition "Give Peace a Chance" vintage-inspired charm bracelet incorporates words and images pertaining to peace.

The bracelet costs $50, with $5 from each donated to the buyer's choice of Seeds of Peace, Women for Women International, USA Cares or Action Against Hunger. It's available through July 31 at more than a dozen local Brighton retailers. See brighton.com for locations.

Another product that supports charity gives a new meaning to bathroom humor. Philosophy's "Laughing Gas" room spray, which smells like cinnamon buns, is $16 for 8 ounces at Sephora and philosophy.com. Philosophy, known for quirky product concepts, is donating all profits to the Entertainment Industry Foundation's National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance.

And Cargo has introduced a collection of 12 "PlantLove" botanical lipsticks made of earth-friendly ingredients such as orchid complex, meadowfoam seed oil, jojoba, shea butter and vitamin E. The lipsticks are encased in sustainable packaging, with the tube made of a corn acid polymer and the box from compostable flower infused with real flower seeds.

Six celebrities helped support the campaign, and a sheer shade is named after each: berry Cece by Courteney Cox, California pink Lindsay by Lindsay Lohan, nude caramel Mariska by Mariska Hargitay, poppy Maria by Maria Menounos, tropical coral Evangeline by Evangeline Lilly and shimmering petal pink Sarah by Sarah Chalke.

The other six are named after places of ecological beauty, such as shimmering semi-sheer honey copper Nahinni and creamy natural dusky rose Majella.

The lipsticks are $20 each at Sephora in Ross Park Mall and at cargocosmetics.com. A portion of proceeds goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
